There is something about the Hawkins clan that I like. My most adept and austere teacher was a Hawkins related to Black Jack the Privateer and I wonder if this man who died recently while happily flying his model airplanes is one of them. I think it is very possible that genetic information transfer is real. Mathematics and astronomy was his forte but he also had a gift for Public Relations when he ran the contest to pay a large sum to anyone who could do the math in Crop Circles.

This was the approach followed by Dr. Gerald S. Hawkins, former chairman of the astronomy department at Boston University. Hawkins was probably the first person who unambiguously demonstrated that crop circles are much more than just some arbitrarily sized and randomly positioned patterns in the fields. After reading the bestseller Circular Evidence, in which an extensive overview was given of all British crop circles for the period 1978-1988, Hawkins analyzed all formations presented in this book. (2) In those early years the pictograms still had simple shapes: single circles, multiple circles in a pattern, and circles with concentric rings around them. All diagrams were put through a straightforward mathematical analysis, during which the proportions of the circle diameters and the areas inside the rings were determined. When starting to learn chords, most people will start with the basic major and minor chords, then on to 7th and minor 7th chords. You might be surprised to learn that when you have mastered all twelve minor 7th chords you have also potentially learned twenty-four 11th chords.

I love the sound of 11th chords; they somehow manage to give a big sound and are great for key changes. If you want to listen to good examples of 11th chords then listen to some early Barry Manilow music such as Even Now , Mandy and Cant smile without you . Listen in particular to the key changes and there you have a good big sounding example of

11th chords in action.

This piece is written as an aid to training. Amateur movers should regard the information here as reasons not to attempt piano movements. Basic knowledge of lifting techniques may only encourage severe harm to assistants, yourself, and least of all…the piano.

The piano is not only heavy and unwieldy, but has polished and vulnerable surfaces to protect. Grand pianos have legs which are designed as stands, and they should be jacked up with proper tools - just to be moved across a room. Even upright pianos, which may be very heavy, typically suffer from failed castors. I wonder what percentage of the pianos moved actually do have a full set of working castors?… not many!

In this article, we will deal with keyboards that are more than adequate for beginners. As a beginner, there is no point in spending thousands of pounds on a keyboard because you will not be able to use the more advanced features that are included on these keyboards because you can t play yet.

Super talented Smooth Jazz artist Chuck Loeb has released his latest CD on the Shanachie Records recording label, entitled In A Heartbeat.

I wish it weren t the case but, it s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with In A Heartbeat. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.
